A powerful landslide struck Sancheong-eup in Gyeongsangnam-do, South Korea today after days of heavy rain. The incident resulted in 1 fatality, 1 person in cardiac arrest, and 4 others missing, according to the National Fire Agency.
At around 11:25 AM, the Fire Department issued Level 2 emergency response due to flooding and landslides. By 1:52 PM, all residents in the Sancheong area received an emergency alert to evacuate immediately.

Sancheong has been hit with a staggering 632mm of rainfall over the past four days, with 283mm falling just today. Other affected regions include:
- Haman: 532.5mm
- Hapcheon: 502mm
- Hadong: 349mm
- Changnyeong: 350mm
As of 2:30 PM KST, 14 counties in Gyeongnam Province are under heavy rain warnings, while 4 others are under advisories.
🚨 Emergency Status Upgraded
The Gyeongsangnam-do government has escalated its disaster alert level to Phase 3 (Severe). Rescue operations are ongoing as emergency crews search for missing persons and support evacuations.
Local officials confirmed that soil runoff in Buri-myeon village triggered the disaster. Multiple residents are unaccounted for, and rescue teams are facing difficult terrain and ongoing rainfall.
